Making a tier list takes a few minutes once you know the steps. Here’s the whole process using the free tier list maker on this site.

1. Pick a topic and a question

Start with something you have opinions about: snacks, films in a series, games you played this year. Then decide what you’re judging. “Best pizza topping” could mean taste, value or how well it pairs with others. A clear question makes ranking faster and your list easier to defend.

2. Add your items

Type item names into the box under the board. Separate them with commas to add several at once. If pictures help — characters, album covers, products — use Upload images, drag files onto the board or paste an image from your clipboard.

3. Set up the tiers

The standard S, A, B, C and D rows are ready to use. To customize them:

  • Click or tap a tier label to rename it.
  • Open the gear menu to change the color, move the row, clear it or delete it.
  • Use Add tier if you need an F row or a custom one like “Haven’t tried”.

4. Rank everything

Drag each item to its tier. On a phone, press and hold an item briefly, then drag — or tap the item and then tap the tier. Do a quick first pass on instinct, then go back and adjust. It’s much faster than agonizing over each item.

5. Download and share

Select Download PNG to save an image of your finished list. Your work is also saved in the browser, so you can come back later on the same device and keep editing.

That’s it. If you’d like ideas for what to rank next, see our list of tier list ideas.
